THE REMAINS OF A CITY + PHOTO EMONA photo contest

The Museum & Galleries of Ljubljana and the Month of Photography – Photonic Moments announce photo contest THE REMAINS OF A CITY + PHOTO EMONA. The winning photographs will be exhibited in the Jakopič Promenade in the Tivoli Park, and along the banks of the river Ljubljanica in Krakovo, Ljubljana.
Spring is calling, time to come outside… Bring your camera with you and take part in our photo contest, or go through your photo archives, and become one of the authors whose photographs will be on public display for anyone visiting Slovenia’s capital in the summer months…

The celebration of 2000 years of the Roman city of Emona continues with a new point of view: though the camera lens! This point of view can touch upon the idea of the poetics of ruins, remains of our past, while at the same time rendering them modern for people creating or living in this city. We live on top of the remains of the past, with traces of the cities that were here before the urban centre in which we live today following our every move. We can explore them as archaeologists or researchers, we can fail to notice them at all, or we can embrace them and make them our own… This goes not only for this city, but for each and every one city built on a foundation of its history…

The contest aims to find original works which offer, through the camera lens, an alternative view of the traces of life forms which created the images of our civilisation in the past, and continue to shape up life today. At the heart of the contest is the question of how people today, with their contemporary lifestyles, feel the past, and how the history reveals itself to photographers today in a modern way. Answer these questions through photography! Read the rules of the photo contest here.

Any author can take part in the contest by submitting at least two photographs comprising a diptych. The author may submit any higher number of photographs, but only one pair can be selected per author.

You can follow the THE REMAINS OF A CITY + PHOTO EMONA contest on facebook where voting for the audience choice winner will be available for the full duration of the contest. The jury will include the audience choice winner, which will get the most »likes« on the facebook page, in its selection.
