Made in Roath 2017 Festival Call Out

Festivals, Open calls | 20 July 2017 - 11 August 2017

MadeinRoath is an artist-led event, now in its 9th year, which aims to take art out of the gallery and into the wider community. It showcases the work of emerging and established artists, makers, musicians, writers and performers, who use the whole of Roath as the venue, including domestic, commercial, public and overlooked or disused spaces. You do not need to be a Roath resident to participate in the festival. madeinroath offers residents and visitors an opportunity to engage in the arts through a dynamic programme and events, including an open exhibition, open houses, open studios, film, poetry and literature, music, visual arts, outreach, education and workshops.

This year’s madeinroath festival will run from 15 – 22 October (with the main events happening on the 21/22 October)
We are looking for expressions of interest from artists who would like to be part of MadeinRoath's visual art/happenings 2017 programme. The potential manifestations of artwork are wide ranging, and could include performance, sound, installation, movement/dance, events, sculptural, public intervention, video, spoken and written work, light works, photography and 2D. We are asking for new work, not an existing body. Artists working in any media are able to apply and we encourage applications from artists at any stage of their career. Appointments are based on proposal, with a view to appointing a range of projects from a variety disciplines.
MadeinRoath will assist in finding suitable spaces throughout Roath for the successful projects to take place. Previous venues include empty shops, cafés, churches and places of worship, on the streets, in windows and on noticeboards, online/digital and interactive, in community halls, pubs and at the Saturday farmers market etc. If you have a location or type of location in mind for your project please state this in your application. The curatorial theme for this years festival is Longer Tables, based on the quote ‘When you have more than you need, build longer tables not higher walls’. The closed road event will feature a series of longer table commissions, to be presented along a table that runs the length of Plasnewydd Road. Applications are welcomed for the Longer Tables closed road event, as well as for the wider festival programme.
